Sound Department In-Ear Training
The Sound Department recently completed a practical training session focused on in-ear monitor (IEM) systems for live performance use. Staff worked through RF frequency coordination, fitting and level-setting together, and practised troubleshooting common in-ear issues during a simulated show.
Training overview
The session combined short briefings with hands-on practice on the in-ear monitor rack. Tutors explained how the RF frequency plan is coordinated to avoid interference, before each participant fitted a beltpack and earpieces and set safe monitoring levels. Working in small groups gave everyone time to ask questions, try different mix configurations and compare results with the performers on stage. The session also reinforced the importance of clear channel labelling, spare battery management and accurate handover notes for the next shift.

Next steps
Further practice sessions will give the team opportunities to build custom monitor mixes for individual performers and apply the workflow during full production preparation.
