Mic Fitting Training

Instructor Christopher James ran a hands on Mic Fitting course for the Sound and Broadcast team, covering the full skill set needed to work as a Radio Mic Runner on a live show.
Training overview
This course focused entirely on the practical side of radio microphone fitting, the skill that keeps a wireless mic invisible and secure on a performer through a full show. Sessions combined video demonstration with hands on practice, and opened with a general Q&A on the role and responsibilities of a Radio Mic Runner, giving attendees a clear picture of what the job demands before moving into technique.
The group then worked through the core fitting methods used on ROHM productions: attaching hair clips to a DPA4060 cable, making and fitting an earhanger, and making an elastic fitting. Attendees practised fitting technique across short hair, long hair, and hair that has already been styled, using the same approach for wig cap fitting, and covered the accessories used to disguise and secure radio microphones on a performer.

Next steps
With fitting technique in place, attendees are ready to build speed and consistency under real show conditions, working live changeovers and quick change fittings backstage. The natural progression from here is into the RF side of the role, understanding frequency coordination and wireless system setup, so the same team members can move confidently between fitting performers and managing the wireless systems that carry their sound.
