Analogue Audio Set-up and Soldering

Trainees built a small sound system from scratch, learned the features of analogue mixers, EQs and dynamics, and were introduced to soldering insert cables.

Training overview
The session combined system building with hands-on cable work, so trainees could see and hear each part of an analogue signal chain.
- A small sound system set up with two Meyer Sound UPJunior loudspeakers on tripods as main PA and a UPM as monitor
- A rack built with a Midas Venice 160, Klark Teknik DN360 and DN370 graphic EQs, DN514 gate and DN540 compressor, including all interconnections
- Midas Venice and Midas MR32 compared: gain structure, line and mic inputs, phantom power, filters, parametric EQ, shelving, Q factor, auxes, groups, pre and post fader
- Introduction to connectors (jack TS and TRS, 3-pin XLR) and to soldering best practice
Training milestones
- A complete small PA system and processing rack built and connected
- Analogue and digital mixer parameters compared
- A common audio insert cable soldered and tested with the gate and compressor
Next steps
The next session continues with insert cables for different equipment and moves on to routing and EQ with live vocals.
