Analogue Audio Set-up and Soldering

Trainees built a small working PA system from scratch: two Meyer Sound UPJunior loudspeakers on tripods as the main PA, a UPM as a monitor, and a rack with a Midas Venice 160 console, two Klark Teknik graphic EQs, a DN514 gate and a DN540 compressor, all cabled together. With the system running they compared the controls on the analogue Venice with the digital Midas MR32, from gain structure and phantom power to EQ, auxes, groups and pre and post fader sends. The day ended with an introduction to connectors and soldering, with trainees making an insert cable and testing it on the gate and compressor.
