Smaart Operator Fundamentals Course

A Rational Acoustics instructor ran a three-day Smaart Operator Fundamentals course, with the classroom set up on the Main Stage so measurements could be taken on ROHM’s own system. Day 1 covered the basics of measurement, including the RTA, spectrograph, FFT and transfer function. Day 2 went into phase, impulse response and delay, SPL, microphone correction curves and aligning the main loudspeakers with the subs. Day 3 covered subwoofer arrays, including cardioid and end-fired set-ups, and tuning and aligning a complete system.

• Day 1: audio fundamentals, single channel measurement, I/O configuration, RTA and spectrograph, FFT, phase and comb filtering, and transfer function
• Day 2: magnitude, phase, impulse response and delay tracking, transfer function applications, SPL, microphone correction curves, and mains to sub alignment
• Day 3: subwoofer behaviour and configurations (in a line, delayed arc, cardioid and end-fired), system tuning and alignment
