Cables, Connectors and Analogue Mixing
A continuation session on making insert cables for gates and compressors, routing signal on an analogue console, and using EQ with live vocals and recorded music.

Training overview
The second day built on the small PA system from the day before. Trainees made jack TRS to twin XLR insert cables, looked at how cable wiring differs from job to job and inside mixers and dynamics units, and tested their cables in the rack. They then routed signal to groups and auxes on the Midas Venice, with the UPM as a monitor, compared EQ on the Venice and the MR32, and mixed live vocals on an SM58 and recorded music, using the Klark Teknik graphic EQs to learn which frequency ranges affect which part of the sound.
- Insert cables made (jack TRS to 2 x 3-pin XLR), with soldering best practice
- Differences between cable wiring for different purposes, and the internal wiring of mixers, gates and compressors
- Midas Venice routing to groups and auxes, using the UPM as monitor, compared with EQ on the Midas MR32
- Panning and routing, then live sound with vocals on a Shure SM58 and with recorded music
- Klark Teknik DN360 and DN370 graphic EQs used to learn frequency ranges with music
