The training significantly strengthened the department’s practical understanding of grandMA3, particularly in the creation and application of dynamic effects for concert lighting. The knowledge gained provides a strong foundation for developing the team’s programming skills further and increasing their confidence in operating grandMA3 in professional live-performance environments.

Professional Trainier –  Chris West. October 2023

Training overview

This training session provided the ROHM Lighting Department with focused, practical training on the grandMA3 lighting control platform, with particular emphasis on effects programming and concert lighting workflows. The sessions explored how grandMA3 can be used to create dynamic, flexible and repeatable lighting states suitable for live music and concert environments. This built upon the core programming principles of the console, including sequences, presets and phasers.

Training milestones

Next steps

  • Continue regular practical programming sessions using the grandMA3 console and onPC.
  • Develop a dedicated ROHM concert show file to allow the team to practise effects, busking and live operation.
  • Introduce more advanced concert workflows, including timecode, macros and Pixel mapping.
  • Provide opportunities for team members to programme and operate simulated concert scenarios.
  • Encourage continued use of MA Lighting’s e-learning and training resources to reinforce the knowledge gained during the session.
